Now what?

by FribergThorelli on August 30, 2017 at 16:01

Thank you for all the nice comments and likes that have been dropping in over the last few days. We truly appreciate it. :) As promised, here’s a little post about what we’re going to do next.

First of all, we’re going to take a small break from this comic that has been following us around for far too long already. ^^ At least a couple of months will be 100% WBK free.

When we feel ready to get back up on the horse again, we’re going to start touching up on the oldest chapters so that they’ll look and feel more similar to the newer ones. We’re not going to go bananas and redraw the whole shebang for 100% consistency, but some light reworking will definitely be done. We were amateurs when we started out, and we don’t want the final product to be too uneven. (The reworked pages won’t be posted online, so the fresher and better-looking final version of the comic will be dead tree edition only. All the more reason to buy it! ;)) In the meantime we’ll start looking for a publisher. If nobody wants our book, we’ll probably self-publish, but we’re at least going to try the traditional route first.

We also have other projects in the works, both together and as individuals. :) We will probably never make anything as huge as WBK again (but never say never, right?), so it’s likely that future projects are going to be more lightweight. Most of these plans are still secret, but if you keep following us on Facebook and/or our new Instagram account, you’ll find out everything about it in good time.

What about the world of WBK, then? Will there be sequels? Prequels? Let’s put it this way: after almost 12 years on the same project, we’re definitely ready to move on. However, we can say with 100% certainty that we WILL return to Ev-la Nin at some point. We already have several story ideas – some we’ve been thinking about for years already – so the WBK world with all its characters will absolutely be back sooner or later, but explored in short comic form only. A “real” sequel of 1000+ pages of its own is not likely to ever happen, which we hope is understandable.

…and …that’s pretty much it?

Again, thanks for reading What Birds Know, and hope to see you around!

1061-1067 (The End)

The seven final pages are up! (Linking to the first page of the winter scene for better reading flow.)

Thanks for reading! And thanks for sticking with us all these years (almost 12!). ♥ What will happen now? When will the book be published? What are we going to do next? We’ll post a little something about that within the next couple of days, but this is it for the moment. Hope you enjoyed the comic, and check back in a short while. :)

Update on progress

by FribergThorelli on August 18, 2017 at 00:02

Hey there, readers. Hope everyone’s having a great summer! :)

Just wanted to drop in and say a few words about the progress. One fateful night in July, when I was about 80% finished with the inking… the computer just up and died. Now, I knew the computer was 10 years old and not just a little cranky, but in my mind I had always been crossing my fingers, thinking “Let’s just hope it will last until the damn comic is finished, please, please, please”… Well, with only 7 pages left, it decided to die on me. >_< Of course we do regular backups, so I knew most of the comic would be safe, but I don’t have the habit of backing up half-finished pages, so for a couple of anxious weeks there it seemed like there was a risk that the 7 half-finished pages would be gone… It wasn’t a great time!

Luckily, when we finally got around to getting a new computer (a real financial setback AND a giant hurdle in the flow of the comicking progress) we found that the files were safe. PHEW! Since then it’s taken some time to get used to the new comp and the new Photoshop etc, but as of this week, I can finally say that we’re up and running again and I’ve finished inking all the pages and started coloring, too.

SOOOO long story short: I knew these 7 pages would take some time, but I didn’t take into account that the computer just might blow up as well. :P So if you’re getting increasingly frustrated with how long this is taking… believe me, so are we! ;) Anyway, it will be finished soon. Stay tuned and thanks for your patience. ♥

Three new pages are up! Only 7 pages left now, and we will probably put them all in one final update, so it may take a while, especially since the pages are pretty detailed by our standards. See ya soon! And have a good summer, everyone. ♥

Three new pages are up! Sorry that it takes forever; we’re as eager as you to get to the end, but real life seems to constantly get in the way.

Some notes:

– 21 pages to go! :O

– Attentive readers will notice that Dores’ dad now has his correct skin and hair colors. *facepalm*

– SUPER DUPER attentive readers will remember Ian’s little blue strawberry juice business from waaaay back and his goathorse-riding talents from the same chapter. ;)

– Our eyes just about popped out of our heads when we saw this viral video on Facebook a couple of weeks ago: “Please show Mummy a sign”: Grieving mum realises little boy is ‘still with her’ while visiting grave on anniversary of his death. Does that look familiar in any way? o_O It even jumps up on her hand! The strangest thing is that we had no idea robins are “often seen in the spiritual community as a symbol that loved ones are still there”. Wtf?
