I bet it’s unlikely that anyone (except the authors, you probably get notifications) is going to see this comment, but I have a feeling that if they’d stayed and listened to his story we the readers would have a better grasp on what’s happening “now”.
I started re-reading this from the beginning so I could keep better track of what’s happening. So, thanks for the comment, I think you’re right! The artwork and story give you a the sense of a real culture, one reason why I think this story is so effective. Little glimpses like Vandi’s Dad’s advice really make you want to know more.
